Before the final reconnaissance, René Metge gives us an outline of
the route for the Africa Eco Race 2012:

"Planning the route for the Africa Eco Race is a long-term exercise. We started working on it from January, just after the end of the third edition, taking into account comments from competitors about what can be improved.
The hardest thing about defining the course is the constant search to find the right balance on each stage, providing tracks that are interesting for the drivers yet with enough ‘good’ challenges for the navigators.
In Morocco, it is never easy to find a new route, especially when for 15 or 20 years other competitions have passed through. But we looked hard… and we found! We will offer new stages and new challenges ...

Then to the wide open spaces of Mauritania, making the itinerary here is relatively easier as we have many more possible routes to choose. On this type of stage its rather about the balance of the difficulties that lie ahead which we must take into consideration.
As usual, navigation will be a key point and co-drivers will have a leading role in our race.

We will strive, as we have always done, to reduce the mileage of the liaison route and favour the arrivals (and departures) of the timed sections to be at the bivouacs.

At the end of this fourth edition the finish will be, as is tradition, in the Senegalese capital. The Rose Lake is looking forward to seeing us!

The final itinerary will be announced at the end of the latest reconnaissance. A little patience ... but you can be sure that the Africa Eco Race 2012 will seduce you! "

Cyril ESQUIROL: « 450cc or more? I’m still hesitating! »

Cyril Esquirol, Triple World Champion of Enduro is a true legend who also experienced the excitement of races in Africa. Now, recovering from the terrible accident he had on the 2nd of January in South America, Cyril is still hesitating between a "small" and a "big" engine for the Africa Eco Race adventure between Morocco and Senegal.
For this specialist, leaving the possibility for competitors to choose (without restriction) the engine of their motorbike is also a way to reduce costs, without obligation to invest in a new 450 cc class machine.

" The Africa Race is a wonderful event and it's worth to be lived fully. On a sporting point of view, I still hesitate between giving priority to power of a « big » engine or enjoy lightness and maneuverability of a smaller one. Depending on the route, one or the other will have advantages and disadvantages and it’s difficult to make the right choice. I find it clever that competitors can still choose the power of their machine. I know some riders who have "big" bikes but less and less opportunities to enjoy them. It's a pity because most important is to have fun! Racing in Africa, with a 450cc or more, is a guarantee to always have fun ... "

TEAM LOOMANS IN A STRONG POSITION!

For its third participation (on four editions), Jacky Loomans is clearly a loyal competitor to the Africa Eco Race. For his 24th major African rally, Limburg driver prepares his weapons, highly motivated to take his revenge after the mechanical problems he had on the previous edition.

« For the 4th Africa Eco Race, the full team will be there ! We will have three cars and two trucks entered in the race. I’ll have a new vehicle, a Toyota developed in South Africa, an even more performant car... This year, the engine failure on the last stage in Morocco spoiled the race, so in 2012, I am determined to fight and reach Dakar in a good position.

My friend, Noël Essers, will be obviously with us and will enter the truck category. We are racing all the time on same events, then no question he could miss the event ! Tavi Tielen, decided too, to be again part of the adventure.
The whole team is very motivated and we look forward to enjoy the atmosphere of the rally and the magic of the African tracks. It is a very important meeting at the end of each year, a great time ... "

NOMADE RACING TEAM… ON TWO AND FOUR WHEELS...

Loyal to the Africa Eco Race, Emmanuel Braga, the nice Nomade Racing Team Manager, confirms his entry on the 2012 edition with a beefed-up team.
On two wheels, some of his riders are already familiar with the event, as Norbert Dubois or Willy Jobard (winner in 2011) but others will discover this African route. Among them, Xavier Moreau, who recently finished on the podium of the Tunisia Rally (Enduro Cup) and Jean-Pierre Demay, who will ride for France Adot (association for organ donation).

This year, "Manu" will also enter ATVs, including Pascal Delesque on a Honda TRX 700. After Sardinia, Tunisia and Morocco, the Norman rider is eager to reach the Lac Rose ...

"It was a pleasure to rediscover the Mauritanian desert and Senegal's Baobabs ... I missed these landscapes and since 2007, I did not have the opportunity to cross some of these areas. Believe me, Africa is still beautiful and fascinating! We experienced an amazing rally with a great atmosphere, not only in our team but with the whole caravan. Conviviality on bivouacs is real! The riders have really enjoyed their race. The route is diversified and well balanced in terms of difficulty.

This year we will have a strong team on two wheels, both riders as mechanics. Moreover, we can still offer some places for assistance. The entry of Pascal, with a quad, gave me some ideas ... I would love too to reach Dakar with my TRX 700 ... I still have a piece of budget to find but I’m dying to be part of this adventure! Rally raid and Africa are true passions ... "

René Metge, Sporting Director of the event, is back again on African tracks to refine the road-book of the fourth edition of the Africa Eco Race. A real precision work carried out jointly with real experts of Africa and rally raid as Jose Maria Servia, Fina Roman and Manfred Kroiss.
Our four musketeers have to go in the details of the 2012 route to offer a diversity and renewal to faithful or new competitors.

René pays particular attention to details as his first goal is to create surprise and wonder.

"When we choose the route of a special stage, we have to keep in mind a certain balance. Between mileage, difficulties of the terrain and navigation, the balance must be very precise.
Regarding Morocco, we have to master an additional difficulty, try to offer a maximum of renewal. Morocco is a country where many races are organised and for competitors, it is essential that we can still surprise them. The recos of this part of the route takes a little longer than, for example, in Mauritania, where the area offers many possibilities.
But in Mauritania, we also have to maintain the right balance. Between sand sea and dune fields, we don't want to be faced with so huge difficulties that it will be impossible to cross or create too fast stages. Each competitor must be able to race at his own pace, but no question to turn the race in a too easy "drive." The Africa Eco Race is a rally, a real race where the time makes the difference. Moreover, for those who don’t feel really comfortable with the race, we created the « raid » which takes part of the race route but where there is no concept of speed.

On the 2012 itinerary, after beautiful stages in the heart of the most beautiful parts of Morocco, the rally will make a break in the south of the country for a « short » rest day in Dakhla, just before Mauritania and its majestic dunes.
Then, we will go in the heart of the Sahara for wonderful sand stages. The kind of stages that wrote the rally raid history. Believe me, the competitors will have stars in the eyes during these legs!

After Mauritania, head to Senegal to join the legendary Lac Rose, on the 8th of January, after the final stage on the famous Dakar beach along the Atlantic Ocean..."

At the end of this final period of recos, in about two weeks, the route of this intense race will be unveiled.

Heroes Legend

スティファン・ペテランセルが昨年主催者を務めたことで注目を集めたのが、このHeroes Legend というラリーだ。
過去のパリダカールラリーと同じルートをたどり、パリをスタートして、ダカールのラックローズでゴールを迎える2週間ほどのラリー。開催時期は10月。
主催者メンバーの中心には、過去のパリダカールラリーを陰で支えてきたアンヌ・マリーが動いている模様で、そのマネージメント力の高さから、ラリーの質の高さもうかがえる。


 
Road book preparation

After a first trip to Mauritania in February, the "recce" team comes back from  Morocco. In spite of a 'catastrophic' weather there,  snow, heavy rain and a mud in abundance, they validated the first 4 stages. Day 1- Nador-Fez, Day 2 Fes-Marrakech, Day 3 Marrakech-tan Tan, Day 4 Tan Tan - Tan Tan in buckle.

Next trip is  planned in May.
 

 
The Route

The first reconnaissance trips have been made and a number of routes has been prepared. In the next months the Heroes Legend reconnaissance team with Anne-Marie Gerandi and Dominique Rochette will headoff to Africa to prepare roadbooks, look for bivouac locations and make appointments with local authorities to valid the route.

A new  route for this 6th edition which will bring the participants in Fes for the first bivouac and then in Marrakech for the second. A selectif route  on the West of Morocco to arrive faster in the 'big' desert, far fromwell  known tracks( very used already  by the numerous rallies in Morocco.

After the crossing of Morocco, 5 stages in Mauritania which will cross incredible dunes and which should be the scene of the most beautiful stories of the 2011 rally .

The difficulty to draw a rally is to find a compromise which can satisfy as well 'pro' as the novice amateurs. Dominique Rochette, who is the person in charge of this challenge, opted for a "spicy" route, " tehnical " and "virile" but always faithful to the tradition of Heroes Legend, the biggest difficulty can be by-passed for the beginners with penalties.

Presentation of the rally in Montauban - France

Recently Roel den Braven en Anne-Marie Gerandi payed a visit to Montauban to reveal the plans for 2011 during a presentation at the city hall with the local press and TV. Just as in 2010 all Heroes Legend competitors will gather in the atmospheric Montauban just north of Toulouse for the technical scrutineering,  on Friday and the prologue on Saturday before boarding for Morocco. After a very hospitable reception in the beautiful historic centre of Montauban the scrutineering will again take place at the town square where also the parc fermé will be situated. The enthusiasm in the region of Montauban is big and quit a few local teams are expected at the start !

 

 
Category SSV - ATV

A new category is born for the SSV and ATV. This category is rapidly growing and needs a quite particular attention. The rally Heroes Legend offers  a customized and adapted race respecting  the specificities of its machines : fractionned stages, assistance points accessible in 4x2, bivouacs accessible for any type of truck, van  or camper...

 
Heroes Legend at the Motorcycle fair Utrecht - Naderlands

During the ‘Motorbeurs Utrecht 2011’ Heroes Legend was well represented at the ‘RallyStage’ in hall 10. During this 4 day event with over 100.000 visitors, several guests and competitors from Heroes Legend were interviewed on the stage. Also Dakar riders, journalist and TV and people from the organisation like Albert and Roel den Braven, Henk Verschuren, and Eric Verhoef shared their experiences enthusiastically with the audience.

HEROS LEGEND のルート

過去のパリダカールラリーのオーソドックスルートが何よりもの特徴なので、
パリをスタートして、スペインを通過して、地中海を渡り、モロッコ上陸、西サハラを通り、モーリタニアを走り、セネガルのダカールにゴールするという設定。

来年の1月に開催されるAFRICA ECO RACE と同じようなルートなので、ラリーがごちゃ混ぜになりそうだが、こちらのHEROS LEGEND は10月に開催されるラリーなので、お間違え無く。

ん〜ん、走ってみたいルートだよなぁ〜

次回大会の開催を選手に知らせるとともに、報道関係者向けにプレゼンテーションするイベントとして、ラリー界で流行ってきているイベント。

まあ、特に何をするわけでもないのだか、
ラリー主催者とその国のラリー関係者があつまり、次回大会の詳しい説明をするとともに、報道関係者向けに写真撮影や大会の概要を伝えるといイベント。


BIG SUCCESS IN THE NETHERLANDS AND IN BELGIUM!

After the opening of the entries for the 2012 edition, René Metge, Sporting Director of the Africa Eco Race®, and Jean-Louis Dronne, the new General Manager of the event, had to meet the competitors and the press of the Netherlands and Belgium.

THE NETHERLANDS: ALL INVITED AT TIJSTERMAN'S!

As usual, Mieke and Kees Tijsterman invited the small world of rally-raids in the Netherlands for a good drink and a delicious buffet in their Waddinxveen's workshop. After the presentation made, with passion, by René Metge, conviviality and warm atmosphere were real.

Questions, interviews… the 80 guests got all the information needed. The interest shown in the event augurs a strong participation of the Dutch crews on the 2012 edition of the AFRICA ECO RACE® on "Race" or "Raid" categories. " I promise you an incredible route which will allow you to rediscover Morocco and Mauritania as you have never seen them! In the beauty of the landscapes, by respecting the level of difficulty for each competitor, but also, as you know, with conviviality ", said René Metge, Sporting Director of the event under a wave of applause.

BELGIUM: AN UNFORGETTABLE EVENING!

After the presentation in the Netherlands, meeting was fixed to the big family of the Belgian rally-raid at Zutendaal (Limburg). A great and sunny party orchestrated in a masterly fashion by Tony Maessen and all his team. Except the regular competitors of the event whom are henceforth Stéphane Henrard, Jacky Loomans, Noël Essers, Albert Vanierschot and Rudy Goeminne (with their whole teams), we also noticed the presence of other many drivers and Belgian teams, such as Cor Bezemer, Roland Hoebeke, but also Vincent Thijs.

For sure, Belgium promises beautiful surprises on the 4th edition of the Africa Eco Race®! On the motorbikes category, we also noticed an increasing interest from amateurs riders attracted by the incomparable charm of Africa and the professional organization of the AFRICA ECO RACE®. Great enthusiasm for the new SSV category (Side by Side Vehicles) and from the important contingent of crews in Raid category. " If we compare with other events where, except for some leaders, all the competitors are reduced to "walk-on parts", the AFRICA ECO RACE® is 100 % cheaper … but for 100% more pleasure! ", said Jean-Louis Dronne in front of about 90 guests before opening the festivities of a really unforgettable evening!

3万〜4万ユーロぐらいでしょう。きっと。
市販はしていないので、日本では買えません。

ヤマハやアプリリア、ホンダも同様なサービスが存在するようです。本社に聞いても分かりませんので、ヨーロッパの有力チームに聞きましょう。

ユーベルオリオールからレネ・メッジへと主催者が交代して、

幾度となく開催されてきたアフリカ・エコレースが来年も開催される。


ダカールラリーの本来のルートである、パリからダカールへと向かうルートを走るこのアフリカ・レース、同時期に開催されることもあり、ダカールラリー主催者から敵対視されていることは間違えない。

ダカールラリーでレジェンド入りしている選手たちが数多くラリーの部隊をアフリカ・エコレースに移し、ちまこましたコースを走る南米のダカールラリーよりも、壮大なスケールの自然の中を走るダカールラリーを満喫しているという。

René METGE : « I THANK YOU ALL! »

After a third edition strong in feelings, René Metge, Sporting director of the AFRICA ECO RACE, wants to underline the quality of the performances of ALL the competitors on this African event.

Dear Friends,

During the 2011 AFRICA Eco Race I had the opportunity to follow all of you. I appreciated your skills in driving and your knowledge to find the right way on this very demanding route.

My reward (as for the organization team) is to see you happy, proud of your performance, and to listen to your acute and sometimes funny comments.

I’d like to thank you all for the atmosphere you breathed on this rally. The mutual aid, the solidarity and the conviviality gave to this adventure a real human dimension.

We are tuned in your comments. We try to stick at best to your expectations. For the next edition, we’ll try again to offer you a beautiful route, giving a good place to driving and navigation and well balanced in difficulties.

Regulation will be revised to allow you, in case of big technical problems, to pursue the rally and to stay in the classification. Our purpose as always is to drive you ALL on the Dakar beach.

Once again, thank you to trust the Africa Eco Race. I really appreciated all of you and I hope to meet you in December 2011.

ダカールラリー中の保険に関するインフォメーション

レース中に有効な自賠責保険については、主催者から提供するので、申込書に記入して申し込めとのこと。

怪我をしたときの生還費用、および死亡した時の遺体の帰還についての保険の申込みをするようにとのこと。

個人的なレース中もカバーする傷害保険もあるよとのこと。

フェリー輸送に関する保険もオプションで用意しているとのこと。

ラリー中の車両のダメージに関する保険もあるとのこと。

どれも、保険料が高そうだな・・・
